Cant find 2nd radio 5ghz on old firmwares

$

Hi!

I have tried almost all of the older firmwares for the R8000 and on all of those I cant see the second 5ghz radio WL2.

When I try the latest firmware from late december I can find all 3 radios, but on this latest firmware OpenVPN Client wont work at all.
Anyone have a solution to this problem? Seems im the only one with missing radio, googled all over the internet and cant find a solution or a similar problem.

I have tried to reset the nvram before and after firmware updates. And when I try the older firmwares the radio shows up on wifi list when I search on my laptop but its on default settings with no password. But It dont show up on config screen in DD-wrt.
Or is there a solution to get OpenVPN to work with the latest firmware?

Didn't see this question posted anywhere else, and couldn't find a good answer on this website.

Could someone please describe the differences between the various downloads of DD-WRT based firmware posted on this site?

Some help for my company's network

$

Hi everyone,

I am coming here to ask you for some help in the configuration of my company's network.

First of all, I am a developer, with basic skills in network administration, so I am not a guru at all! But as I am the only IT guy, I have been chosen to create the company's network.

Concerning the network, we actually have 2 BT lines, and we would like to "split" the traffic between those two lines. We are a small company working in an office with 2 rooms, so I have been thinking to simply split the traffic between those rooms. Every traffic in each room going to a different BT router.

So here is the network I have been planning and cabling, with 2xR8000 as R1 and R2.

I have been doing that so we have a high-availability if any of the BT routers crashes. However, it seems that there is an internal switch into the R8000 routers that prevents me from doing what I want.

Would someone be able to help me in creating a highly available network that would split the traffic between those 2 rooms?

Thank you in advance to everyone that will try to help!

Kind regards,

Zaryel

DDNS / OpenDNS getting wrong IP

$

Hi,

I`m having problems to access my network (FTP/http) from the internet using DDNS (dns-o-matic) and openDNS. I`m not a network specialist, so let me explain what I`m trying to do.

I`m using ddwrt kong (latest build), which I setup to use openDNS and dns-o-matic (it updates openDNS and no-ip.com). My wan address displayed on top right corner is 100.64.xxx.xxx. The address sent to dns-o-matic is 179.159.xxx.xxx. When I try to connect with ftp using my no-ip url, it resolves correctly to 179.159.xxx.xxx, but the router never replies; it doesn`t work. I also tried input the IP 100.64.xxx.xxx (which I suppose is the one assigned by my ISP), but it doesn`t work either.

All the tests above, I used my cell phone as if I were connecting from internet (in fact it was).

When I connect from within my network:

- using my internal IP 192.168.1.1: it works

- using 100.64.xxx.xxx: it works

- using 179.159.xxx.xxx: it doesn`t work

Now a few questions:

- why do I need to inform openDNS my dynamic IP? what are the advantages?

- if the dynamic IP informed to opendns is the one they assigned to me, again, why do I have to inform them?

- I suppose IP 179.159.xxx.xxx was assigned by opendns. why doesn`t it work at all (either from internet nor from within my network)?

- why ip 100.64.xxx.xxx works from my network but not from internet?

- why is ddwrt sending 179.159.xxx.xxx to dnsomatic and not the 100.64.xxx.xxx? I suppose this is the one opendns/no-ip needed to be notified of, right?

- what am I doing wrong and how to solve it?

Thanks,

Paulo

WLAN and VLAN

Hey guys,
Just hopefully looking for a yea/no answer and then try to figure it out.
I've a Juniper SRX with 3 VLANs. MGMT, LAN, Guest. I want to setup a single trunk port with all 3 VLANs connect to my R8000. Then broadcasting 2 different SSIDs assign Guests into Guest VLAN and normal users into the LAN VLAN all while still managing the R8000 via the MGMT VLAN....of course the MGMT VLAN I dont want on any SSID.

Is this something I can do with the Kong Firmware?

Internet going off and on

I got dd-wrt on my r8000 and haven't setup other options yet only the wireless with wpa pass. Internet went off for a long time and then back on... I think the developer need to take a close look at this design. I'm switching back to my other firmware. This is getting too redicious.

Which R8000 firmware is most stable as of Feb 2016?

I want to install the most stable firmware for the R8000.  I'm assuming this is the latest Kong Mod, but I'm not sure which is the latest.  Is it the Jan 2016 uploaded mod with the 2015 title?  (I'm guessing this was a typo.) Or is it the Oct 2015 mod?  What firmware would you recommend as the most stable?  Thank you.

Bandwidth cut in half

HI,

I have Gigabit internet service and generally get very close to 1 GB download, 970Mbps and higher, with factory firmware.

I have tried several versions of ddwrt. The only problem I have is that I get 50% of my bandwidth at best with any version of the firmware.

All settings are default except SSID and wireless security.

Set up monthly traffic limit ?

Can you set up a monthly Traffic Meter that you can set a limit on and resets each month like you can with the stock firmware?

I tried the dd-wrt a few months back and couldnt find anything about it, so went back to stock.

DD-WRT Kong Problems and how I fixed them

$

Wanted to post this in case it helps other.

I used Kongs DD-wrt build from Feb 02 / 2016

Problem: Strange Wifi behavio. Some devices won't connect, others get stupid slow speed, just general crappy wifi.

For all this I use a USB to TTL device to talk to the router it really makes life easy!

Fix:

1a) Flashed back to Stock Firmware (using tftp). b) Loaded default settings. c) reboot
2a) On the router nvram reset b) nvram commit c) reboot
3a) Flashed DD-WRT Kong (using tftp). b) Loaded default settings c) reboot
4) repeat step 2a-c
5) repeat step 3a-c
6) Configure as normal

I know this looks like at a lot for nothing but something was stuck in my router memory that was causing dd-wrt just to run like crap and I had read this on another forum and it worked great! I get much better coverage and through put now than my stock firmware

Problem: Naming SSID's all the same or even just the 2 5g channels causes strange wifi behavior

Fix: Make sure EACH antenna has it's own SSID. ie myHome, myHome-5g1 and myHome-5g2 . as of this writing Smart Connect is not supported in dd-wrt (at least I couldn't get it to work)

Setup Tips:

1) Enabling Explicit and Implicit Beamforming improved my wireless devices that where in rooms away from the route
2) Specify the Wireless channel for each Antenna. I had problems when I had each antenna set to Auto
3) If you are only using Wireless N and NOT AC set channel width to 40MHZ
4) If you have 5g N and AC clients set one Antenna to 40MHZ for the N and set the other to 80mhz for AC . This will allow maximum speed for each connection type

I am in NO way an expert so take everything I say with a large grain of salt. All I can tell you is these changes really made my router come alive!

Cannot assign wl1.1 to bridge

Using DD-WRT v3.0-r28600M kongac (01/03/16)

Have previously set up guest network on dd-wrt for several 3700 & 3800s - all successfully - using http://www.alexlaird.com/2013/03/dd-wrt-guest-wireless/. The guide is for a single virtual wifi interface, but it's trivial to extend it to both 2.4 & 5 bands (on the same guest network) on the 3700/3800s.

Just flashed my newly purchased R8000 with the above and, after setting up wifi, configured for guest wifi using the same as I've done before (as per above).

As there are 3 radios, I've got 3 virtual interfaces and I assign them all to bridge br1. All have different SSIDs.

wl0.1 & wl2.1 are assigned no problem and work just fine.

wl1.1 isn't able to be assigned no matter what I try. Assigning it under :"Assign to Bridge" lets me set it up, but it never appears in the bridging table and it cannot be used. Troubleshooting to date:

- Remove wl0.1 and wl2.1, and make wl1.1 the only interface on br1. No go. So it's not a limitation of 2 interfaces.

- Create a new bridge (br2) and assign it there. No go.

I note that it's the 2.4Ghz band that has the problem while both the 5s are fine, although this could be unrelated.

wl0, wl1 & wl2 all work just fine and dandy.

Any ideas?

Thanks

M.

First Time Flasher Netgeat X6 R8000

Hi

I am new to this forum and just flashed my Netgear X6 with the firmware that seems to be the most stable according to this forum.
DD-WRT firmware for Netgear R8000 Based on revision 28514

I have currently setup wifi device ids and passwords so far and everything is working but i have noticed a bug possibly. The internet light which is normally white on official firmware is not working at all now although internet is working. Why is this? Is there a Internet LED option i must enable to get this to lighten up?

No Wireless Lan virtual adapters?

So im trying to create a seperate wifi virtual interface, and its not working fo rme..  Is this a flaw of this firmware?     None of the wireless adapters are showing as an option in to assign them to a bridge either?   I only see ETH0-3 which apears to be the wireless stuff..  I would expect to see wl0-3  and wl0.1 etc.  Any ideas?

No 5Ghz-1 Wireless Network with the latest DD-WRT "Kong Mod"

Today I installed the latest (March 10th) DD-WRT "Kong Mod" for my R8000 and the first 5Ghz Wireless network did not work, the other two (2,4Ghz and 5Ghz-2) worked fine, I was never able to see the SSID of the first 5Ghz network. I did reset the R8000 to factory defaults before and after installing the DD-WRT firmware, I even tried installing the firmware multiple times and nothing.

Is there something that I forgot to configure? thanks

Hi,

I flashed the firmware to the lastest DD WRT but ran into some problems so I decided to switch back to Netgear firmware.

I followed every steps but now can't log-in to the router using the default username / password.

Does anyone know how DD WRT encrypt the password as I remember the password I set when I'm on WRT.
